The Syrian basketball team opened its World Cup qualifiers by losing against Kazakhstan by 74-84 points, as part of the first window competitions in the match that brought them together today in the capital, Nur-Sultan.
The first quarter ended with our team advancing 23-17 points, while the Kazakhstan team advanced in the remaining three quarters in a row by 15-16 points, 21-15 points, and 30-21 points.
The list of our team in the meeting included twelve players: Jamil Sadir, Sharif Al-Esh, Zakaria Al-Hussein, Omar Idlebi, Anthony Bakr, Hani Derby, Abdel Wahab Al-Hamwi, Anas Shaaban, Omar Sheikh Ali, Kamal Jumblatt, Amer Al-Sati, and the naturalized Amir Jabbar.
The draw for the qualifiers placed our national team in the fourth group, accompanied by the teams of Iran, Kazakhstan and Bahrain, where the qualifier system for the Asian continent depends on the distribution of the sixteen participating teams into four groups, each group includes four teams distributed according to geographical division. Two groups for East Asia and the same for West Asia. Home and away The top three teams from each group qualify for the second stage of the qualifiers.
It is noteworthy that Al-Fayhaa Hall in Damascus will host the return meeting on the twenty-ninth of this month, after an absence of more than ten years from hosting international meetings.
