Painting by Frida Kahlo at auction valued at 30 million dollars

(Repeat with correct subtitle) (ANSA) - ROME, 22 SEP - A poignant self-portrait by Frida Kahlo portraying her husband, Diego Rivera, in the center of the artist's forehead, is destined to break a record and become the most precious Latin American work in the history of public sales. The Guardian reports it.

    It is a 1949 painting entitled Diego y yo ('Diego and I') and the auction house Sotheby's, which will present it in London on 22 and 25 October, has estimated it at 30 million dollars. If it is sold for that amount, it will break the record held by the painter's traitorous husband. Apart from the staggering price, the work is of inestimable value because it sheds light on the Mexican artist and his tumultuous relationship with Rivera.

    Kahlo first saw him in 1922, when he was already a world famous mural artist and was 36 years old.

   She was only 15 years old but was immediately fascinated by him.

   They met again in 1928 and the following year they were married. Kahlo once wrote in a notebook: "I have had two major accidents in my life, one in which a tram hit me ... the other was Diego", referring to when a bus hit her at 18 leaving her with terrible injuries. The painting 'Diego y yo' was created during a particularly dark spot during their second marriage when Rivera was trading Kahlo with their friend and movie star MaríaFélix. (HANDLE).
