The Federal Police in Rostock employed several paintings in a locker.

It was unclear how valuable the pictures really are.

In the end, not much - and the owner probably just forgot to pick it up.

Rostock - The Federal Police in Rostock temporarily turned a picture discovery into art detectives - and then turned out to be almost worthless. As federal police spokesman Frank Schmoll said on Monday, 16 paintings were found in a locker at the train station in Rostock-Warnemünde, the origin of which was initially unclear. A train employee had emptied the locker on Sunday, which had been occupied since October 6th and whose usage time had already been exceeded.

The pictures are still lifes, ship paintings and a religious motif with dimensions of 85 by 54 centimeters or 70 by 50 centimeters and smaller.

Since there was no indication of their value, the officials investigated.

And finally found out that the pictures belonged to a traveler.

This was on October 6th by train from Warnemünde to Schwerin.

All the luggage had become too much for the man.

That is why he put the art pictures - which are relatively worthless prints - in the locker along with a blue sack with items of clothing.

The older man did not pick up the pictures and things until Sunday.

"That sounded credible to our colleagues," said the spokesman.

Now the entire find has been handed over to Deutsche Bahn AG, where the owner can pick it up again.

The Federal Police are not aware of any further details.
