The "Manifesto for Paris" emphasizes transport. The socialist mayor wants to introduce the speed of 30 km / h throughout Paris.

The Covid-19 crisis has changed many municipal candidate programs. Electoral alliances too. In Paris, Anne Hidalgo (PS) and David Belliard (EELV) just unveiled their joint program on Tuesday morning. Entitled "Manifesto for Paris", the text is a kind of fusion between "Paris in common", program of the outgoing socialist mayor, and "Ecology for Paris", commitments of the environmental candidate. All re-read in light of the lessons learned from the coronavirus epidemic.

Flagship proposal of the alliance between Anne Hidalgo and environmentalists: limit speed in all of Paris to 30 km / h. Only major routes such as the Champs-Élysées, Boulevard Sébastopol or Boulevards des Maréchaux would be exceptions and the speed would remain at 50 km / h. Lowering the speed would reduce air and noise pollution, the text argues.

Redevelopment of the ring road and fight against the automobile

The Boulevard Périphérique is no exception. Anne Hidalgo wants to lower the speed from 70 to 50 km / h. It had already been lowered from 80 km / h to 70 km / h in 2014. " We will transform the two-lane four-lane boulevard twice into a peaceful urban boulevard: we will start by creating a lane reserved for shared transport (buses, shuttles, taxis, carpooling) to progressively reduce the number of traffic lanes, give more space to nature, and give the possibility of crossing on foot or by bicycle, ”adds the manifesto. The objective is clear: gradually erase this " border of another age ".

The manifesto intends to continue the automobile reduction policy implemented by the socialist mayor. “Fighting against all pollution is a public health issue. This is why we will continue to reduce the place of the car in our city, ” insists the manifesto. As such, "no more diesel vehicles will circulate in Paris in 2024", promises Anne Hidalgo, and " half of the parking spaces will be transformed in 5 years, in particular to enlarge the sidewalks. Pedestrianization should also be given pride of place. Anne Hidalgo and David Belliard present the Manifesto for Paris in video conference at noon . The opportunity to develop their other proposals for youth, health, employment and the preparation of the city for future crises.
