Paris 2024: the obsession with controlling the budget

PARIS 2024 (2/14) - On August 8, during the closing ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics, Anne Hidalgo, mayor of Paris, will officially receive the Olympic flag. The start of a crazy adventure that will lead in 2024 to the Olympic Games (July 26-August 11) and Paralympics (August 28-September 8).

During a series, “Le Figaro” takes you behind the scenes of a Paris 2024 project which, for many months now, has stirred up ideas and mobilized energies.

In public opinion, the Olympic Games equals mismanagement.

Since Montreal in 1976, examples have piled up of host cities lamenting white elephants and budgets whose seams have cracked.

In Athens in 2004, Beijing in 2008, Sochi (Winter Games) in 2014 or Rio de Janeiro (in 2016), not to mention Tokyo (in 2021).
