The painter Frida Kahlo and the actress Sarah Bernhardt will be among the female artists honored by the museums of the City of Paris for the 2022-2023 season, the program of which was unveiled on Wednesday at a press conference.
From September 15 to March 5, 2023, the Palais Galliera will bring its visitors into the intimacy of Frida Kahlo through 200 personal objects, exhibited for the first time in France and from the Casa Azul, the painter's famous house in Mexico.
Traditional Tehuana dresses, pre-Columbian necklaces, hand-painted prostheses, these objects had been sealed when the artist died in 1954 by her husband, Diego Rivera, before being discovered in 2004.
From April 11 to August 27, 2023, the Petit Palais will pay tribute to Sarah Bernhardt for the centenary of the icon's death.
More than 500 works on display will retrace the life of the actress but also an artist, with a section returning to her own paintings and sculptures.
In the spring, a retrospective dedicated to the Franco-Norwegian painter Anna-Eva Bergman will be held at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris.
