Strong solar radiation over a long period of time is dangerous for people.

But it can also cause expensive damage to the car.

When the sun burns down from the sky in summer, cars heat up pretty quickly.

As a rule, people try to park their car in the shade - but unfortunately the corresponding spaces are often already occupied.

In order to quickly cool the car down again afterwards, there is, among other things, the so-called “key trick”.

In general, however, drivers should observe a few tips on hot days - especially on long journeys on vacation.

However, extreme heat can not only be dangerous for people – it can also cause damage to the vehicle.

As Thomas Schuster, motor vehicle expert at the expert organization KÜS, explains, modern cars are particularly at risk.

Because newer vehicles are equipped with a large number of electronic components and devices - and extreme heat can lead to defects in these.

"These can often only be repaired at high cost," says Schuster.

"Because it is usually not possible to repair the sensitive devices, so you have to dig deep into your pocket to replace them."

But even older vehicles can be damaged by strong sunlight: Permanent parking in the sun can cause the paintwork to fade considerably.

"Red cars, which absorb the high-energy part of the radiation the most, are particularly affected," explains Schuster.

Strong sunlight and bird droppings can also become a damaging combination for any paint.

Sunscreen is also anything but good for the paintwork.

Drivers of e-cars should also exercise particular caution: "Anyone who has just completely filled their battery should not necessarily park in the blazing sun," explains the KÜS expert.

"Because the heat doesn't do the electricity storage badly." In summer, it's better to park the Stromer in the shade or in a multi-storey car park or garage.

In addition, heat damage can also be directly dangerous.

In extreme cases, this also affects driver assistance systems, which may then react differently than expected.

If you then lose concentration and are a little distracted by the high temperatures, the risk of an accident increases.

If possible, everyone should park in the shade in midsummer, advises the KÜS specialist.

If only places in the sun are available, protective mats can at least limit the heating of the interior.
