Participants in the 39th General Conference of the Syrian Pharmacists Syndicate demanded an increase in the value of the pharmacists' pension and an increase in support for the pharmaceutical industry in order to secure the local market's need of various pharmaceutical brands and the production of alternative medicines to imported medicines.

The participants in the conference, which was held today at Al-Sham Hotel in Damascus, raised a number of topics, including the creation of a national center for pharmaceutical studies and a review of granting licenses to new graduates in proportion to the area of ​​cities.

The two-day conference will discuss the regulatory, financial and investment report, the reality of the pharmaceutical industry and the conditions for practicing the profession.

In his speech, the Minister of Health in the caretaker government, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghubash, affirmed the ministry’s keenness to work jointly with medical unions to develop the profession and advance it and provide the best services to citizens according to the maximum available capabilities, noting that Syria continues to support the national pharmaceutical industries through many measures, including exempting production requirements and raw materials from customs duties and taxes.

A member of the central leadership of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Head of the Office of Popular Organizations and Professional Syndicates, Engineer Hoda Al-Homsi, drew attention to the importance of having priorities in the implementation of proposals and the need to follow up on pharmaceutical sciences and scientific research that contribute to the development of the profession as it is part of the medical system that continued to work despite all the challenges imposed by the terrorist war on Syria and the spread of the Corona virus in the world.

For her part, Dr. Wafaa Keshi, the captain of the Pharmacists Syndicate, indicated that the conference is an important opportunity to re-evaluate union work, enhance the positives and address the negatives, noting in cooperation with the Ministry of Health in terms of issuing a number of decisions and circulars that meet the demands and propositions presented in previous conferences at the level of branches and the center.

Dr. Keshi indicated that the Syndicate is working to increase its investments and benefit from the profits of the central warehouse, whose work is expanded on a monthly basis to supplement the retirement treasury fund and to increase the retirement salary later, in addition to preparing a study on an agreement with the virtual university related to creating professional specializations in pharmaceutical sciences that will be available to all regardless of Age.

In a statement to SANA, Dr. Marwan Bishara, the union’s treasurer, pointed out the importance of the conference in terms of raising various issues related to work and submitting recommendations to the Ministry of Health to adopt organizational decisions that facilitate work in pharmacies and pharmaceutical laboratories, pointing out the importance of proposals about increasing the pension salary for pharmacists to meet the needs of retirees and supplement the support fund for martyrs’ families The wounded in the army amounted to money.

From the Homs branch, the pharmacist, Nada Harfoush, pointed to the need to increase support for pharmaceutical laboratories and provide facilities for them to secure the various pharmaceutical groups, considering the conference an opportunity to shed light on the requirements of the pharmaceutical work and other union issues that concern pharmacists and improve their work environment.
