About sixty migrants, including 22 children, were taken into care on Wednesday 2 September on the beach of Wimereux (Pas-de-Calais) after the failure of their attempt to cross the Channel, we learned from of the prefecture.

Sixty-three people - 31 men, 10 women and 22 children - were found on this beach near Boulogne-sur-Mer, according to the count provided by the prefecture.

Favorable weather conditions prompted migrants to undertake the crossing by boat overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, while these attempts at clandestine crossings have increased in recent months, despite the risks and the mobilization of significant surveillance resources.
In mid-August, the body of a 28-year-old Sudanese migrant was found on a beach in Sangatte (Pas-de-Calais).
He had tried to cross the Channel on a small rubber dinghy, accompanied by a Sudanese teenager.
According to a count made by AFP, at least 1,020 migrants have been intercepted at sea since early January by the French authorities, while they tried to cross the Channel using makeshift boats or swimming.
