NEW YORK - Cinecittà and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles join forces in the name of Pasolini.

In what is the first partnership between the two institutions, one of the most versatile Italian artists of all will be celebrated with an integral retrospective on the occasion of the centenary of his birth (March 5, 1922, ed).

Entitled 'Carnal knowledge: Pier Paolo Pasolini's films', the retrospective will be held from February 17 to March 12 in the building built by Renzo Piano and inaugurated last year.

The program, which provides for the almost exclusive use of precious 35 mm copies made by Cinecittà, including some shorts and documentaries, inaugurates a unique agreement of its kind, which provides for the stable programming of reviews, exhibitions and activities dedicated to Italian cinema for the next five years, testifying to the more than twenty-year relationship between the two institutions. "Italy is the first country in the world to sign such an agreement - underlined Nicola Maccanico, CEO of Cinecittà - and we are proud to start this journey by celebrating one of our best intellectuals. Despite his fierce criticism of capitalism and the bourgeoisie, Pasolini was fascinated by the United States, New York in particular, as he declared in a 1966 article by Oriana Fallaci, and was reciprocated ".The retrospective will cross Pasolini's three main periods: his reinvention of Italian neorealism as a powerfully lyrical vehicle for devastating portraits of modern life (Accattone, Mamma Roma); his gory portraits of the depravity of European society (Teorema, Porcile); its shocking Trilogy of Life, a celebration of the primary pleasures of sex set in antiquity, and its antithesis, the devastating and grim WWII horror show, Salò.a celebration of the primary pleasures of sex set in antiquity, and its antithesis, the devastating and grim WWII horror show, Salò.a celebration of the primary pleasures of sex set in antiquity, and its antithesis, the devastating and grim WWII horror show, Salò.
