The RBB Broadcasting Council has decided to immediately dismiss its controversial artistic director, Patricia Schlesinger.

DER SPIEGEL learned this from the supervisory board.

22 members voted for the dismissal, there was one abstention.

The meeting on Monday afternoon discussed, among other things, the termination of the employment relationship, a possible severance payment and the pension of the outgoing manager.

Numerous allegations of nepotism have been made against Schlesinger in recent weeks, which she rejects.

The Attorney General is investigating, and there is also an external investigation by a law firm.

Results are not yet available.

Ex-director asked for an apology

Schlesinger had previously commented on some of the incidents in a lengthy statement and apologized to the staff and the board.

»I overlooked some things, including and especially the displeasure of the employees.

I'm so sorry - professionally and personally," says a speech transcript quoted by the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Schlesinger personally attended the meeting.

She apparently explains the criticized costs for the conversion of the executive floor - around 1.4 million euros - with an "overdue pollutant and fire protection renovation".

Only half of the costs were used for the renovation of the director's office and the other half for the conversion of the legal department.

An ordered massage chair was "usable for everyone".

Before and during the meeting, however, numerous freelancers demonstrated in front of the RBB headquarters in Berlin.

On posters they demanded the return of the covers, a "stop to the felt" and more money for the program.

Allegations and external investigation

In addition to the 61-year-old, the focus is on the resigned chairman of the RBB board of directors, Wolf-Dieter Wolf.

He also rejected allegations.

It's about questionable orders for Schlesinger's husband and ex-SPIEGEL journalist Gerhard Spörl from Messe Berlin, where Wolf was until recently head of the supervisory board.

In addition, there are details such as controversial consulting contracts for an RBB construction project, an expensive company car for Schlesinger, meals with guests in their private apartment at RBB's expense with allegedly subsequently processed bills, a strong salary increase to 303,000 euros plus bonuses that the broadcaster has received so far kept under lock and key.

Schlesinger's trip to London was also recently criticized.
