(CNN Spanish) --

Peru's President Pedro Castillo accuses the media and the opposition of conspiring against him and "subduing" him in a speech on Wednesday.

The president's speech came amid a series of political scandals and corruption allegations that point to him and his family.

“They take into account other things to debate and make people believe that this president (himself) came to steal the country's money or to make them believe that my family is the same one who stole the country.

Dear compatriots, they want to subjugate us (to the government) with the media agenda, the media circus, allied with sectors that have never done anything for Peru,” Castillo said during his speech.

Currently, the President faces five criminal charges for corruption in an investigation led by the country's Attorney General's Office.

Lawmakers have pushed for Castillo's removal, seeking 87 votes to oust him.

He has had two previous impeachment attempts since the start of his presidency last year.

Martha Moyano, First Vice President of Peru's Congress, said in an interview on Wednesday: “Obviously, he (Pedro Castillo) has no arguments to defend himself.

He is now blaming the judiciary, the prosecutor's office, the press, the legislature, that is, each one is responsible for his alleged crimes or those committed by his relatives, his sister-in-law " .
