Peru's President Pedro Castillo accuses the media and the opposition of conspiring against him and "subduing" him in a speech on Wednesday.

The president's speech came amid a series of political scandals and corruption allegations that point to him and his family.

“They take into account other things to debate and make people believe that this president (himself) came to steal the country's money or to make them believe that my family is the same one who stole the country.

Dear compatriots, they want to subjugate us (to the government) with the media agenda, the media circus, allied with sectors that have never done anything for Peru,” Castillo said during his speech.

Currently, the President faces five criminal charges for corruption in an investigation led by the country's Attorney General's Office.
