Petersburg, in northwestern Russia, recorded the highest average temperature in 116 years, reaching 30 degrees Celsius.
The RIA Novosti news agency quoted an expert from the Phobos Russian Meteorological Center, Mikhail Leos, as saying: Temperatures in the northern capital rose to 29.9 degrees, thus exceeding the record set 116 years ago by 0.1 degrees.
According to the website of the North-Western Directorate of Meteorology, Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, temperatures have risen abnormally in Petersburg and its Leningrad province, amid expectations that this weather will continue until the 24th of this month.
