The Syrian pianist Ghazwan Al-Zarkali chose to celebrate the 60th anniversary of his participation in the Syrian and international musical life by presenting an evening of solo performances of the works of two great piano composers, the German Beethoven and the Polish Chopin, on the stage of the Drama Theater at Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts in Damascus.
Al-Zarkali, who is considered a professor of playing education and founded a school for teaching piano, presented during the evening program two works characterized by difficulty, mastery and high skills in playing. The piano for its richness and flow.
In the second part, the professor played at the “Franz List” Conservatory in Germany two pieces for Chopin’s “Mazurka” and Sonata No. 3, Classified No. 58 Maqam Si Minor. These two pieces belong to the late stage of this Polish composer’s short life and show through them his quest for renewal and the development of his experience on his pieces of character. Purely romantic.
It is noteworthy that Professor Ghazwan Zerikli recorded for the first time on Syrian radio in 1962 and held the first concert at Al-Qabbani Theater in Damascus in 1963 and won local and international awards. He is an international jury member and holds 4 university degrees from Berlin and Moscow.
Zarkali graduated in academic work between 1976 and 2003 to become an expert professor traveling between the cities of Berlin, Moscow, Osnabrück, Weimar, Damascus and Cairo. He issued 8 CDs in playing and composing, and he is licensed to teach the German language. He has 4 books translated into Arabic and authored 3 books on music, which are “On music and musicians.” "Sound and Time" and "Principles of Tone and Rhythm".
