In the context of a presidential pre-campaign, many political figures were alongside the police, while the member for Marseille chose to denounce a “demonstration of an ostensibly factious nature”.

“Every morning when I get up, every night when I go to bed, I think of you,”

Gérald Darmanin assures a few police officers in full procession. Copiously hissed, the Minister of the Interior appeared at the very beginning of the gathering of the police.

"I know it is very difficult, but you know that the French support you"

, assured the "first cop in France". His colleague at Justice, Éric Dupond-Moretti, did not come. A few meters away, in the hemicycle of the National Assembly, the Keeper of the Seals, however, sent them a benevolent message.

"As a citizen, I could have found myself in this demonstration to provide my support to the police services",

assured the Minister of Justice.

He took the opportunity to reaffirm that

"the police and the magistrates are in the same Republican boat".

A response to the remarks made a few minutes earlier by Fabien Vanhemelryck, the general secretary of the Alliance-national police union, who declared on the platform that

“the problem of the police is justice”.

In a context of pre-presidential campaign, many political figures of the opposition were also alongside the police.

The main figures on the right - Xavier Bertrand, Laurent Wauquiez, Valérie Pécresse, Bruno Retailleau… - have found the delegation of LR deputies.

“The police are the ones who protect us.

If they are not protected, who will protect us?

Who will protect the Republic?

We must constantly support them, ”

underlined Xavier Bertrand, the outgoing president of Hauts-de-France, already a candidate for 2022.

Swirl left

Among the many elected members of the National Gathering present, Jordan Bardella, vice-president of the party, mocked the presence of Gerald Darmanin who came, according to him,

"to see his own inaction"

.

"We can see that a great chaos is being organized in our country, an organized disorder for which Emmanuel Macron is responsible,"

denounced the head of the RN list for regional in Île-de-France.

Participation in this rally, on the other hand, created a serious stir on the left. France rebellious and Europe Écologie-The Greens had justified their absence - with the exception of the MEP, Yannick Jadot - saying they were concerned about defending the police but denouncing the demands of the unions, in terms of justice in particular. They also denounced the choice to organize this rally in front of the National Assembly.

The leadership of the PS and the PCF, on the other hand, went there, causing a rupture to the left on this sensitive issue, probable strong axis of the presidential election. "

Security is neither on the right nor on the left, it is a concern expressed by the French, whatever their political side

", justified the PS deputy David Habib. “

We experience it as a social demand.

Their presence did not prevent Olivier Faure from standing out from a main demand of the police, that concerning the minimum penalties. “

We fought against it because in reality it does not work.

"

Present despite the hostile line defined by his party, Yannick Jadot has also assumed his participation without sharing all the demands.

"Let us not abandon the police to the National Rally or to the instrumentalization of the government"

, especially advised the quasi-presidential candidate.

Under the fire of many criticisms within his party, he questioned:

"To be environmentalist and to speak about the police force, it is to be of right?"

At the end of the day, however, the tone got even worse on the left. Convinced of the need to solemnize the division during the presidential pre-campaign, Jean-Luc Mélenchon called an impromptu press conference at the Paris headquarters of his movement. Surrounded by several parliamentarians from his group, the member for Marseille denounced a "

demonstration of an ostensibly factious nature under the guise of a tribute to the police officers killed

". It is "

in the sense that it is not attacking the causes for which these unfortunate people were murdered but institutions such as the judicial institution

", he denounced. He also protested against the presence of Gérald Darmanin, pointing "

a Minister of the Interior who agrees to go and demonstrate against the Minister of Justice, one institution against another

”. "

Trade unions and police organizations do not have to lay down the law,

" he insisted, considering that "

intellectual terrorism

" prevents "

from discussing the way in which the police forces are employed in our country.
