A rusted waffle iron triggered a special operation by ammunition miners and the police in northwest Brandenburg.
A 47-year-old from the area around Berlin had alerted the experts, as a police spokesman reported on Sunday.
The man had dug on his vacant lot on Saturday in Mansfeld near Putlitz and discovered a metal object that looked like a tell mine at a depth of 20 centimeters.
The experts carefully recovered the iron object and identified it as a waffle baking iron.
The police spokesman nevertheless praised the man's caution.
You never know if something is explosive.
