As part of an online conversation, the Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD), the Fahrradclub (ADFC) and the Greens presented and explained problems and opportunities for cyclists in Germering.
One focus was on how temporary so-called pop-up cycle paths (= temporary cycle paths) can improve the safety of cyclists.
Germering - Heinrich Moser (VCD) initially stated that bicycle traffic had increased significantly during the corona crisis.
The market was bought empty and bicycle traffic had doubled in some regions.
The infrastructure is reaching its limits.
According to Moser, the crisis can be seen as an opportunity for urban development, because: "The bicycle is the most efficient means of transport in domestic traffic."
So-called popup bike lanes could be a powerful tool.
Changes in the traffic situation could thus be achieved quickly.
ADFC local spokesman Michael Sigmund (Germering) sees some catching up to do for the city when it comes to cycling.
There has been a cycling round table for years.
The city is also a member of the working group of bicycle-friendly municipalities.
But there are no tangible improvements for cyclists.
In order to improve the situation, Gerhard Blahusch (Green City Councilor) wants to work to find and mark suitable routes for pop-up cycle paths.
Possible places could be Planegger Strasse or Hartstrasse.
At the same time, according to Blahusch, parking spaces in the large central shopping streets should be temporarily rededicated for bicycles.
