The sports car manufacturer Porsche reports record sales results for the first three quarters of this year: a total of 217,198 Porsches were delivered worldwide from January to September.
This corresponds to an increase of 13 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the company.
What is particularly remarkable, however, is that the fully electric Porsche Taycan has already overtaken the Porsche classic 911 in its second year of marketing.
According to the company, Porsche sold a total of 28,640 Porsche Taycans in the first nine months of 2021.
The 911, on the other hand, was only sold 27,972 times in the same period.
According to the figures, however, the SUVs from Porsche are still particularly popular.
The Porsche Cayenne sold a total of 62,451 times in the first nine months of this year, making it the manufacturer's best-selling model.
With 61,944 deliveries, the Macan is in second place in the company's internal ranking.
"Demand for our sports cars was also at a very high level in the third quarter," said Porsche sales director
Detlev von Platen
.
He referred to a "challenging" situation in the supply of semiconductors.
Von Platen, however, sees the order books well filled.
For the year-end spurt, Porsche is "full of optimism".
In fact, like its competitors from Mercedes and BMW, Porsche sold fewer cars in the third quarter.
The Stuttgart-based Volkswagen subsidiary delivered around 63,500 vehicles worldwide between July and September, around 15 percent fewer than a year earlier, according to the company's announcement.
