Damascus-SANA

The General Tobacco Corporation announced the postponement of farmers' debts due from the price of medicines, fertilizers and plan materials to the next year and exempting them from the price of seedlings rented from the foundation's support nurseries due to the damage to their crops in the Al-Ghab region as a result of the storm that struck the region recently.

The Director of Agriculture at the General Tobacco Corporation, Eng. Ayman Qara Falah, said in a statement to SANA delegate that the process of postponing owed debts and exempting farmers from the price of rented seedlings comes within the framework of supporting tobacco farmers and helping them to overcome the damage caused to their crops, especially the Virginia variety, as a result of the storm.

Qara Falah stated that teams from the agricultural cadres of the Corporation have counted the damages caused by the storm that hit the towns and villages of Salhab, Safsafa, Ain al-Krum, Shataha, Jurin, Freekeh and Mardash in the al-Ghab region among tobacco farmers and sent to the Fund for Mitigating the Effects of Drought and Natural Disasters, which in turn will compensate the affected farmers according to its own procedure.
