Fish, fruits and vegetables are good for children's brain development… even when they are eaten by their mothers during pregnancy.
This is, in short, the conclusion of a study conducted among thousands of children born in 2011 and monitored as part of the long-term national research program Elfe.
These results, presented on Thursday, suggest that healthier diets during pregnancy are associated with better overall development scores at preschool age.
“The nutritional recommendations for pregnant women are designed to promote the health of the mother and the fetus
, explains Blandine de Lauzon-Guillain, researcher at Inserm and lead author of the study.
But we weren't sure of their specific effect on the baby's neurological development because that aspect of things has been little studied."
