The ruling United Russia party topped the elections for members of the Russian State Duma, according to preliminary results announced by the Central Election Commission of Russia tonight.
The Russia Today website quoted the committee as saying that the preliminary results of the vote counting in the federal ballot through the party-list system indicated that the United Russia party advanced with 38.85 percent, followed by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation with 24.94 percent, and the Russian Liberal Democratic Party came in third place with 9.57 percent, while The New People's Party ranked fourth with 7.83 percent, while the Just Russia for Right Party ranked fifth with 6.75 percent.
The State Duma includes 450 deputies, 225 of whom are elected through party lists with a general federal vote, and 225 through single-seat districts through local suffrage. Access to the Council requires the parties participating in the elections to cross the threshold of 5 percent of the vote.
By a decision of the aforementioned committee, elections to the State Duma in Russia took place between the 17th and 19th of this month, in conjunction with the regional and local elections. This year, the Internet polling took place in Moscow and 6 other provinces.
