Premier League leaders Liverpool have continued to extend their lead over Manchester City. After beating Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 (2-0), coach Jürgen Klopp's unbeaten team are now eleven points ahead of the defending champion, who previously did not make it past Newcastle.
Center-back Virgil van Dijk scored both goals for Liverpool (18 minutes, 24 minutes). This advantage was needed in the second half, as keeper Alisson Becker saw the red card for a handball outside the box (76.) and Lewis Dunk met for the outsider (79). However, Brighton & Hove failed to pass Liverpool substitute goalkeeper Adrián for a second time.
The Reds now have 40 points after 13 wins in 14 season games.
