President Bashar al-Assad received Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and the accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, they discussed areas of existing cooperation between the two countries, whether at the level of combating terrorism or at the economic and commercial levels. Lavrentiev and Vershinin explained that this visit comes within President Putin's directives to strengthen this cooperation and expand work with Syria in all fields and at all levels, reiterating the readiness of the Russian Federation. To actively contribute to the process of reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure destroyed by terrorism and to establish investment partnerships with Syria in the fields of energy and agriculture in a way that achieves the interests of the two friendly peoples and contributes to the revitalization of the Syrian economy.
Discussions also took place on the developments of the situation on the ground in Syria and the latest developments in the region and the world. President al-Assad considered that these developments and changes, foremost of which is the American withdrawal from Afghanistan, indicate the decline in the role of the United States and its allies, which requires the countries of the region and the neighborhood to work to enhance security and peace and chart the future of the region with the will of its peoples. without outside interference.
The meeting also dealt with the topic of the meetings of the committee to discuss the constitution, which will start tomorrow, and the importance of continuing the political track was emphasized in order to reach consensus based on the constants of the Syrian people and the preservation of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
