Prisons: is going from 60,000 to 80,000 places enough?

VERIFICATION - This is what Xavier Bertrand is proposing for the 2022 presidential election. The president of Hauts-de-France also wants to re-establish short sentences and put an end to automatic arrangements.


THE QUESTION

This is a traditional promise of presidential candidates.

In 2007, Nicolas Sarkozy had promised the construction of 24,000 prison places, and even 30,000 during the 2012 campaign. Finally, with the alternation, most of these projects were abandoned by the socialist power.

In 2017, Emmanuel Macron had promised the construction of 15,000 prison places in five years, but this figure should ultimately be reduced to 7,000.

Xavier Bertrand, who wants "
