The graduation projects presented by the students of the Department of Tourist Offices Management and Tourist Guidance at the Faculty of Tourism at Damascus University varied, and they came as a result of an effort that lasted four academic years, during which they linked what they learned at the university with the requirements of the labor market, so that their projects would be a gateway that qualifies them to engage in field work.
SANA Youth met a number of students who discussed their graduation projects, including the student Dia Maalouf, who ranked first during her study years at the university. Within the tourist programs specially designed for them, in a way that guarantees their safety and enjoyment, and to strengthen the qualities necessary for the tour guide present with them.
Regarding the objectives of the research, Maalouf pointed out that they included facilitating the design of tourism programs for people with mobility disabilities, in a safe and enjoyable way, rehabilitating and empowering the target group, so that they can integrate with their social surroundings, and shed light on the current situation of this type of tourism in Syria.
In turn, the student Rawan Adnan Darwish, who presented a paper entitled (The Symbolism of Colors in the Syrian Folk Heritage and Its Employment in Tourism), indicated that her research seeks to achieve a set of goals, most notably highlighting the distinctive diversity of color symbolism among the ancient Syrians, and showing it through its employment in the tourism sector, And a study of the symbolism of each color, to gain familiarity with the Syrian cultural and popular heritage, which contributes to the development of tourism in Syria.
She pointed out that the importance of the research lies in the fact that it gives a benefit to the tourism sector, which is reflected in its effectiveness and the development of the tourism movement of the establishments, noting that the research concluded several results, most notably that the use of colors and their employment in tourist facilities improves the demand for tourists.
Student Ali Diop, who completed a research on the role of tourist huts in protecting the environment, pointed out that the importance of the research is highlighted by focusing on the value of the acquired experiences, which tourists will take through their interaction with the environment, which contributes to directing public attention towards vegetation cover and preserving environments. natural in Syria.
He stated that the research aims to contribute to expanding the scope of mountain tourism, transforming it into sustainable tourism, highlighting the importance of wooden hut tourism in preserving the environment, and transforming eco-tourism projects from profitable only to a rich community experience.
The student, Christine Akram Mustafa, indicated that her research dealt with the study of natural reserves in Syria, (Abu Qubais as a model), explaining that the aim is to assess the reserves' resources, invest in tourism activities in them, present proposals to protect the ecosystems in the reserves, and develop development plans for this purpose.
She pointed out that the importance of the research lies in evaluating the natural resources within the reserves, shedding light on the natural reserves and the resources available in them, and how to benefit from them, in line with environmental laws.
The student Jad Khawaja, who presented a research on the reality of cultural heritage in the city of Aleppo and its rehabilitation in tourism, and dealt in particular with archaeological markets, stated that the research reached important results, including the need to organize events and festivals in the markets of Aleppo, especially that these markets are considered one of the most important archaeological sites.
Regarding the projects presented, Dr. Kamal Ismail, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Tourism for Administrative Affairs, pointed out that the graduation projects submitted by students after the completion of their studies open opportunities for them to prove themselves and achieve the principle of linking the university to society, noting that some project titles are chosen by students under the guidance of the departmental councils in The college, and others are chosen by the college professors, because they include important topics the student is not familiar with.
Dr. at the Faculty of Tourism Imad Assaf confirmed that students’ research is monitored and scrutinized, because accurate and documented information is important in the field of tourism and tourism guidance, indicating that the students tried to benefit from what they learned during their study years, and apply it through their projects.
Dr. at the College of Tourism, Taghreed Muslim, pointed out the importance of the research presented, as it takes practical aspects, that is, applicable and implemented on the ground, and the concerned authorities should benefit from its results.
