PSG: how are the “after matches” elimination for Paris?

2021-05-08T14:38:04.065Z

Still engaged in the fight for the title in Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France, the Parisians can not relax. This is good, that

PSG must return to battle.

Eliminated Tuesday evening in the semi-finals of the Champions League, the capital club still has four, even five "finals" to play before closing its season.

The objectives: Ligue 1 and

French Cup.

All in a fortnight and it starts in Rennes on Sunday May 9 (9 p.m.) for the shock of the 36th day of the championship.

But how do Parisians recover from a European failure?

With the exception of the 2019 counterexample, everything is generally going pretty well.

Manchester United, trauma… late.

In 2018-2019, PSG undergoes a second “comeback” in three years in the knockout stages of the Champions League (2-0; 1-3). All against a very overhauled Manchester United team and during a terribly mismanaged return match. In Ligue 1, everything is going wonderfully with more than fifteen points in the standings. In March, Kylian Mbappé's PSG remained in his season with four successes in a row after elimination, including a semi-final of the Coupe de France. April and May are more complex with the release of a good part of the group and sharp tensions. On April 21, PSG were crowned French champions, but lost the Cup final on penalties against Rennes.

Remobilization after Real Madrid.

In 2017-2018, the PSG of Neymar and Mbappé, year I, was overtaken in March by a Real Madrid on the way to its third coronation in a row in the Champions League. But this elimination does not spoil the almost perfect season at the national level. The Parisians largely dominate the championship and are recovering well with eleven games without defeat after elimination, including two victories in the final of the Coupe de France and the Coupe de la Ligue. They are crowned champions on the evening of the 33rd day, after a card against Monaco (7-1), on April 15.

Barça jostled them.

In 2016-2017, PSG saw the greatest trauma in its history: a 6-1 inflicted on Camp Nou in the round of 16 of C1. But the rest is less famous: in the fight with Monaco and Nice for the title in Ligue 1, the Parisians hang on. First with a memorable success in Lorient (2-1) for the Serge Aurier episode and his late entry into play… Lyon (2-1) and Monaco (4-1), in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue, are the next victims of the PSG of Cavani and Emery. The victories are linked but the ASM takes off definitively after the Parisian defeat in Nice on the evening of the 35th day.

Manchester City and the end of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

In 2015-2016, Paris was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Manchester City (2-2; 0-1) on April 12 for the last season of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. But the Swedish striker and his family had already completed Ligue 1, being sacred since March 13 (30th day) ... The European elimination does not stop them: 6-0 in Caen, a 4-0 against Rennes, a Cup of the League against Lille (2-1), a Coupe de France against OM (4-2). Nationally, the season is perfect.

An elimination in the form of encouragement.

In 2014-2015, Barça from the “MSN” stops PSG in the quarter-finals on April 21. But the Parisians coached by Laurent Blanc are having a difficult season in Ligue 1, jostled by OM, then OL. Until the 30th day, the PSG is in pursuit mode. Returned to leader a month before being subjected to the Catalans' law in the Champions League, the capital club will not relax: 6-1 against Lille, 3-1 against Metz, 2-0 in Nantes, 6-0 against Guingamp, 2-1 in Montpellier, 3-2 against Reims and a Coupe de France final removed against Auxerre (1-0).

Chelsea hurt… briefly.

In 2013-2014, PSG clashed with Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the Champions League (3-1, 0-2), eliminated on April 8. The following ? A defeat in Lyon on the evening of the 33rd day of Ligue 1. Without consequence, however, thanks to the ten points ahead of AS Monaco. A week later, against OL again, Paris conquered a new Coupe de la Ligue. He then secures his league title, the second in a row.

So close to Barça…

In 2012-2013, coached by Carlo Ancelotti, PSG fell in the quarter-finals against Barça Messi (2-2, 1-1), thanks to away goals scored by the Catalans. A nice course for the first year of Paris QSI version in the Champions League. But the title in Ligue 1 is far from being acquired despite the seven points ahead of OM on the evening of the 31st day, a few days before the elimination. On the return from Catalonia, PSG snatched a precious success from Troyes (1-0). But, four days later, he fell in the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France against Évian Thonon Gaillard… An inglorious outing which did not prevent PSG from winning their first championship since 1994.
