2021-07-26T18:12:52.987Z

The rapid spread of the Delta variant and tourist frequentation have led the prefecture to take health measures, including the oblivion

Faced with the upsurge in the number of Covid-19 cases and "the rapid spread of the Delta variant" in the Basque Country, wearing a mask outdoors is now mandatory for 11 years and over, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., in the cities popular with tourists.

This concerns the agglomeration community of Bayonne-Anglet-Biarritz also called "BAB" but also Guéthary, Hendaye or Saint-Jean-de-Luz, according to France Bleu.

The perimeters where the mask must be worn have been defined by the Prefecture of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in consultation with the mayors.

It is also forbidden to drink alcohol as in Bidart, Ciboure and Urrugne.

The measure, applicable immediately, runs until August 31.

For several weeks, the health situation has deteriorated in this neighboring department of Spain.

The incidence rate is 240.9 per 100,000 inhabitants.

It is particularly high among 10-29 year olds.

But from Béarn to the coast, the situation is contrasted to say the least.

In the Basque metropolitan area, the incidence rate is 405 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Some measures for the whole department

However, some measures concern the whole department.

Thus, you will have to cover your nose and mouth on all the open air markets, flea markets, unpacking sales.

The mask will be compulsory on public roads during artistic events and their preparation taking place in public space and welcoming a public wandering or standing, as well as in the queues generated at the entrance of establishments open to the public (cinemas, stadiums, festivals, etc.), details the prefecture.
