Participants in the 24th National Symposium on Quality organized today by the Syrian Scientific Society for Quality at the “Dama Rose Hotel” in Damascus under the title “Quality and Safety” focused on promoting and disseminating quality concepts in various aspects of life and responding to the needs of society.

Participants in the symposium held on the occasion of the National Quality Day called for the introduction of quality concepts in the educational curricula at all levels of education and the development of a national program for the rehabilitation of Syrian industrial enterprises in the public and private sectors to obtain a certificate conforming to quality systems.

They called for the Syrian Scientific Society for Quality to be considered a national certification body and its representation on the Board of Directors of the Syrian Center for Accreditation Services, as a fundamental party in preparing the Syrian voluntary report on sustainable development goals and adopting it as an advisory arm in building quality management systems in public sector companies.

Minister of State for Investment Affairs, Muhammad Fayez Al-Barsha confirmed in a press statement the government's endeavor to modernize and develop the systems and laws that regulate quality and accelerate the creation of infrastructure in order to achieve this goal so that quality becomes a measure of life despite all difficulties, blockades and sanctions.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, Jamal Shuaib, pointed out the interest that the ministry attaches to the issue of quality, especially with regard to food, to which all quality standards must be met in a way that will positively affect human life.

In her speech during the opening of the symposium, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Syrian Scientific Society for Quality Basma Ibrahim stated that safety has become a priority in light of the growing global health crises caused by the emerging corona virus, explaining that safety cannot be achieved without quality standards and standard specifications that all governmental, civil and community agencies must work To achieve.

Ibrahim said that the association is working on networking with the Quality Regulating Office in the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Syrian Standards Authority and the ministries to reach the dissemination and promotion of the concepts of quality and its culture, so that it later turns into a behavior for all the parties producing goods and providing services.

The lectures focused on the relationship of quality and safety in its various aspects and its reflection on human life, safety, property safety, environment, food, roads and safety, and the problem of traffic safety, which is a major challenge to public health and the resulting social and economic effects, which requires the application of Standard 390001, which deals with the quality of roads and vehicles, as well as the application of Quality standards in tourism facilities using modern technologies and systems in management, organization and service provision in accordance with international standards.

A number of companies participating and supporting the symposium presented their experiences in quality management and their keenness to provide their products and services to enhance their competitiveness locally with similar companies and competition in foreign markets.
