Racing sets the record straight

Six weeks ago, Stade Français began its crazy climb in the standings with a resounding success at the Arena against Racing. A capital quack for the Sky and White who had woken them up, galvanized them. And this Friday, the Hauts-de-Seine club wanted to set the record straight and it did so brutally. A demonstration of strength, efficiency and solidity which sent a (new) strong message to the competition. We will have to rely on the Racingmen for the final sprint. "We want to be champions of France," had launched the Ile-de-France manager Laurent Travers before the derby. La Rochelle, opponent of Racing next week in the semifinals, is warned. This Racing is scary.

Fickou, executioner of his former club

Within a line of attack that some qualify as "galactic", Gaël Fickou was the object of all attention. His transfer during the season from Stade Français to Racing caused a lot of ink to flow. Stirred a lot of controversy. And, after being exempted from the recent derby between the two clubs, the center of the XV of France has put things right from the start. It was he who launched hostilities by scoring in the 5th minute, piercing the Parisian defense. To celebrate his test, he kissed his jersey stamped with the Racing logo. An image that will still make people talk ...

The atmosphere was at the rendezvous at the Arena

For this final phase derby, the public was back at the Arena.

5,000 lucky people had made the trip to Nanterre and the pink supporters had managed to recover much more than the 700 sesames that had been allocated to them.

Despite the rout of their team, the Parisians continued to give voice throughout the game.

Just like the Sky and White aficionados, all happy to see theirs show.

Despite a big slump around the hour mark.

The Parisians were at their wit's end

Authors of a cannonball end of the season (six successes in a row) which allowed them to snag a ticket for the finals for the first time since 2015, the Stade Français players are appeared at the end of the roll. From the start, they suffered the assaults of Ile-de-France and showed indiscipline (two yellow cards in the first period) which weighed them down. Lack of sharpness, no solutions against the big opposing defense, the players of Gonzalo Quesada (who had to adapt his team composition to respect the JIFF average) sank. The Pink Soldiers season was already successful with this forceps qualification in the top 6. Too bad we had to wait until the second half for Antoine Burban's teammates to wake up…

Stade Français shoots itself in the foot

Difficult to do worse in the first half.

From the start of this derby, the Parisians were punished with a shovel.

Fouls galore, which from the start weighed down their match.

Some will say that referee Thomas Charabas had the Stadistes in sight and that he penalized them too much.

Except that the Quesada players have never rectified the situation, they have never been able to adapt to this arbitration.

Opposite, the Racingmen - in addition to their cold efficiency in attack - were intractable in defense and very little penalized.

They scored four tries in half an hour, mass was quickly said in Nanterre.

The Parisian awakening in the second half was not enough.

Racing: watch out for less good shots

The 92 club climbed into the last four of the Top 14 for the sixth time since returning to the top flight in 2009-2010. A good consistency at the high level but, in order to get a new title after that of 2016, Laurent Travers' team will have to resolve some concerns about the drop in speed. After their recital - both offensive and defensive - in the first half, the Ciel et Blanc experienced a big air gap around the hour mark, conceding three tries after returning from the locker room. Guilty release after taking the break? Perhaps. One thing is certain: this kind of slack could be very detrimental in a closed meeting against Stade Rochelais. The Parisians tried to ignite the match but they were starting too far. The only one crossed out on the Racing side. But it is clearly visible.
