Hunziker in "Striscia la notizia": "I was so naive"

The TV presenter Michelle Hunziker has apologized for a racist appearance on an Italian satire show.

On the TV show "Striscia la notizia" she and her co-host Gerry Scotti made fun of the Chinese with grimaces and L instead of R sounds.

"I'm really sorry if I hurt someone with it," said the Swiss-born 44-year-old in a video posted on the Instagram platform on Wednesday.

The show by the media company Mediaset was broadcast on Monday and then triggered a wave of outrage, especially on social media.

"It became clear to me that we live in times when people are sensitive to their rights and I was so naive as not to have considered that," explained the former co-host of the ZDF Saturday evening show "Wetten dass .." ? «.

She is not a racist.

She is happy that the world is becoming more and more inclusive and absolutely wants to be a part of it.

Indeed, everyday racism is a current issue.

Even if racism is supposedly expressed without intention, this has consequences in public.

The debates are often about small, condescending gestures or remarks, which are then often excused with innocence.

In Germany, the BR had recently horrified its viewers with an actor painted black: The satirist Helmut Schleich had a black despot who gave Germany tips on how to deal with the corona pandemic.

It should be a parody of Franz-Josef Strauss, said the broadcaster.

Accusations of racism were also raised against the WDR when a group of exclusively white media representatives discussed whether one could still use racist words such as "Gypsy Schnitzel", whereupon the WDR organized a theme evening "Racism".
