Radio audiences: hosts who win, shows that lose

2020-11-20T09:11:49.729Z

The figures fell this Thursday morning. With good news for some and bad for others.

On the air, they will not fail to thank their listeners and to boast of “historic results”.

However, this Thursday morning, after the publication by Médiamétrie of the first radio audiences of the season, some hosts will indeed release champagne and others will be content with a little soup with a grimace.

Augustin Trapenard and Fabienne Sintes in good shape on France Inter

Public radio is always carried by its overpowering morning.

Since the start of the school year, Nicolas Demorand and Léa Salamé have woken up 1.94 million French people on average every morning between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.

They are by far at the head of the first morning in France, with a peak at 2.25 million for the 8 hours newspaper, the most listened to moment of the day, all radio stations combined.

Their segment is stable, with 40,000 listeners lost in one year.

But this time it is not to the tandem that France Inter owes its historically high comeback.

The station can say thank you to Augustin Trapenard.

The host presents one of the fastest growing shows.

It has conquered 170,000 new listeners in one year, and now has 1.29 million fans of its morning cultural event.

France Inter is in great shape at midday where it is ahead of RTL from 11:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and at the end of the afternoon, where every quarter of an hour climbs from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., Fabienne Sintes informs 855,000 people, 27,000 more than at the start of the previous school year.

Things get stuck for Bruno Guillon and Thomas Sotto

RTL is in decline, but certainly not because of Yves Calvi, still at cruising speed.

Every day, 1.64 million people get up with the journalist between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., compared to 1.62 million last year.

In the process, Julien Courbet is perfectly stable, too, with 1.32 million listeners who need his help.

These are the novelties that plague France's second radio station.

At 11:30 am, Bruno Guillon is struggling for the moment to forget Stéphane Bern.

The presenter of "Z'Amours" has 895,000 listeners, when his predecessor had 965,000 last year.

Now extended from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Laurent Ruquier's program can bet on 1.05 million “Big Heads” fans.

A very high score, but clearly down over one year.

It stuck especially for Thomas Sotto.

Its evening news section brings together 425,000 faithful, against 565,000 a year ago.

He particularly suffers from the deletion of "On remake the world" in the second hour.

Apolline de Malherbe worse than Jean-Jacques Bourdin

RMC knew it was a risky bet to replace Jean-Jacques Bourdin after 20 years of service with Apolline de Malherbe.

The journalist wakes up 455,000 French people between 6 am and 9 am, or 85,000 less than last year.

The big 8:30 am interview, of which Bourdin kept the controls, is the moment of the morning which resists the best with 590,000 faithful, against 615,000 at the previous return.

The proof that listeners remain attached to the emblematic journalist of the station?

At the end of the day, Mohamed Bouhafsi and Jean-Louis Tourre are struggling to forget Christophe Dugarry.

The 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. loses 95,000 regulars, for a total of 195,000 listeners

Europe 1 struggles with its novelties

With 685,000 faithful, Matthieu Belliard's morning show is down slightly over one year.

He loses 50,000 followers.

For Europe 1, the good news is to be found on the morning side where its grid holds up well.

Audiences even climb between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., notably thanks to Philippe Vandel, Anne Roumanoff and Patrick Cohen.

For his daily return, the latter won 20,000 regulars in “Europe Midi”, for a total of 300,000.

On the other hand, it is much harder in the afternoon for the Stéphane Bern / Matthieu Noël tandem and for Julian Bugier.

The former have only 140,000 listeners between 4 pm and 6 pm, ie 20,000 fewer over a year.

The blow is even harsher for the future holder of the 13 Hours of France 2. His time slot is in decline with nearly 60,000 listeners lost, for a total of 150,000 people listening.

Virgin Radio already regrets Camille Combal

You miss only one being and everything is depopulated.

Virgin Radio did not wait for the departure of the new TF1 star at the end of last season to measure Camille Combal's popularity.

His replacement Manu Payet has only 270,000 listeners between 7 am and 10 am, 90,000 less than the last start.
