The postponed renovation of Peitinger Strasse was again an issue in the city council.

An important point: the cycle path connection to Peiting.

An intelligent traffic light is required to ensure a safe transition at the Loamer Stichl.

- The residents of Peitinger Strasse will breathe a sigh of relief: As reported, the schedule for renovating the street in the coming year cannot be adhered to because the Weilheim State Building Authority does not have enough budget for all the necessary road projects. This was announced during a street inspection in July, "a decision that we have to accept," as Mayor Falk Sluyterman stated in the latest city council meeting.

The plans were presented for the first time in December 2020. An important point here was the improvement of the cycle path connection to Peiting. "We will use the time to move forward with the planning," said city architect Sebastian Dietrich, saying that there were still many necessary arrangements in advance. In any case, a development plan has to be drawn up, he reminded. Other projects, such as those along Marktoberdorfer Strasse, could also be brought forward.

Dietrich described the agreement with the State Building Authority regarding a traffic light at Loamer Stichl as a “little ray of hope” - in order to create more safety for turning, but also for cyclists.

Stefan Scheckinger, head of the Weilheim State Building Authority, had confirmed the project to the local newspaper, but whether the traffic light can actually be built in the coming year, this firm commitment could only be made in spring.

An intelligent traffic light system is desired

"Of course it is annoying when the Free State of Bavaria postpones such a measure, but having more time to spare may also be beneficial for our building authority," commented Friedrich Zeller (SPD) on this item on the agenda. However, he had concerns about the traffic lights for cyclists. An intelligent traffic light system is to be set up that does not slow down the cyclist by first pressing a switch and then waiting for it to turn green. "When I hear traffic lights, I can insist that it won't get worse like the northern traffic lights at the Münztor," Zeller continued. In the vernacular, this system is called the “bedside lamp”, referred to Zeller, referring to the repairs that have been suggested several times. For pedestrians, the waiting times are apparently sometimes very long.

Zeller therefore wanted a “highly intelligent traffic light” for cyclists.

The city architect promised that special attention would be paid to this, also for the future crossing of Friedrich-Haindl-Straße.

This is where the greatest change will be visible, as the access to the paper mill will also be redesigned, namely further in the direction of Peiting.
