Tensions have erupted in recent days between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his associate, Transportation Minister Miri Regev, over the appointment of the chairman of the Airports Authority. Therefore, the committee for examining the appointments in government companies, known as the Gilour Committee, did not approve the candidacy of Benlulo, also a veteran of the Likud in Ashdod, who served as an MK in the 16th Knesset and serves as head of the JNF delegation in France, Luxembourg and Belgium.

The committee did not find that he had relevant experience or knowledge to manage the Airports Authority, which is responsible for operating civilian airports and is in charge of the aviation industry, which was particularly affected by the corona and is in the midst of the greatest crisis in its history.

Political sources told Walla! NEWS that Regev first considered circumventing the committee's decision and bringing Ben - Nullo's appointment to the government for approval, but eventually decided to make another attempt and submit his wing as a candidate. In the first phase, Knafo submitted an application to be appointed a director of the Airports Authority, which was approved earlier this month by the Appointments Review Committee. The committee determined that Knafo has special qualifications to serve as a member of RASHAT's board of directors, due to his experience in the field of logistics, which is a major area of ​​practice of the Airports Authority. Regev intended to nominate him as a candidate for chairman. However, following the opposition of Netanyahu and his entourage to the appointment, his candidacy may be dropped.

The Likud branch in Ashdod is one of the largest and most central in the country, with more than 4,000 functionaries. Regev is considered a very strong figure in the branch: in the last primaries for the Likud list, in February 2019, she came in second place and received close to a thousand votes there - a small gap from Yuli Edelstein who came in first place.
