An excerpt from the presentation of the musical "Habadnikim" by the Chamber Theater (Walla! Culture system)

The Chamber's new musical "Habadnikim", written by Udi Gottschalk and also directed with Gilad Kimchi, the theater's artistic director, is apparently a light musical, but behind the humor, songs and dances, there are quite a few heavy issues hidden such as gays in the ultra-orthodox sector, violation of women's rights and disgraceful treatment of employees the foreigners

One of the show's directors defines it this way: "loving satire".

The musical, which will premiere on August 12, is about Yehuda and Chaim, a pair of 23-year-old twin brothers from Kfar Chabad, the first a genius in the Torah and the second not a genius and certainly not in the Torah. The head of a crime family who imposes his terror on the residents of the neighborhood. From here, as they say, the plot gets complicated.

"We have been working on this musical for almost three months with a wonderful cast of amazing actors and creators, and the revolution orchestra that will be with us on stage," Kimchi said in a presentation to journalists that was held for the musical today (Monday) in Kamari.

"We felt that there was something original, different, very funny in the play. This material disguises itself as a light and fun comedy, but underneath is satire, which deals in a poignant way with the wounds of our society. When we try to define what we do here, we enjoy saying 'loving satire.' Not simple topics, but with sensitivity and human love."

Udi Gottschalk, writer and co-director of the musical, said among other things: "This musical comes from a good place of love. This whole thing is an adaptation of the story of the exodus from Egypt. It's a kind of unfounded urban legend about this thing."
