(ANSA) - MILAN, 25 NOV - In Italy, the electrification of consumption, starting with the use of the electric vector instead of other energy vectors, and the installations of renewable energy plants are growing at insufficient rates to achieve the national targets by 2030. is the ElectricityMarket Report 2021 of the Energy & Strategy Group of the School of Management of the Politecnico di Milano (PoliMi), which in any case sees how "the evolutionary scenarios and energy policies draw an upward prospect, starting from the registration of 100,000 electric cars in the first nine months of 2021, so much so as to double the number of vehicles in circulation compared to the end of 2020 ".

According to the study, "the installed capacity of renewable energy plants in Italy today exceeds 56 Gigawatts, thanks above all to solar and wind power, vice versa the electric power plant has gradually decreased: about 60 Gw compared to 77 Gw in 2012 for 77% represented by power plants. to natural gas and 17% from coal plants, which will have to be decommissioned over the next 5 years ".

The rate of electrification of consumption - adds the Energy & Strategy Group of the PoliMi - has instead remained constant at around 20% over the last decade, even if the changes in the coverage of electricity demand are evident, above all observing that the incidence of traditional thermoelectric plants has been reduced from 74% in 2005 to 54% in 2020, while renewables went from 14% to 38%. Furthermore, in 2021 there was an almost continuous increase in the price of energy (in the first nine months + 64.6% on an annual basis compared to 2019 and + 121.3% compared to 2020) due to the increase in the cost of gas, "which must reflect on the strong dependence on fossil fuels of the Italian generation mix", explains the study.

"The substantial policy actions enacted at EU level between the end of 2020 and 2021 to favor a sustainable economic recovery (the Green Deal, the Next GenerationEu, the Fit for 55) have given new impetus to the optimism of the operators in the sector on the evolution of the system Italian electricity, and energy more generally - comments Simone Franzò, director of the Observatory on the Electricity Market of the E&S Group - This promising scenario, thanks to increasingly ambitious decarbonisation objectives and huge financial installations of plants powered by renewable sources, and with disturbing elements that could slow down the pace of evolution of the electricity system, such as the surge in prices ofpower".

From the evidence contained in the report, supported by a close comparison with the operators in the sector, an overall positive scenario emerges thanks to the progress of both the regulatory and regulatory nature and of the market (for example, the novelties in the opening of the Dispatching Services Market and the introduction of of collective self-consumption and the Energy Community), but there are still some issues to be solved.
