Replacement weakened Geretsrieder River Rats sell well at 2: 4 in Peißenberg
Peißenberg / Geretsried - The task that Rudi Sternkopf currently expects before every Bayern league match of the Geretsried ice hockey team is like a puzzle.
Before the game at TSV Peißenberg, after the long-term injuries Horvath, Reiter, Köhler and Strobl, Jorde (knee) and Hüsken (shoulder) also canceled.
What the rump troop with only 13 field players then offered on Sunday evening was therefore worthy of all honor.
“The team played well, but that's all there is to it at the moment,” said the coach after the 2: 4 (0: 2, 0: 1, 2: 1) defeat.
The home side got off to a stormy start and took the lead after five minutes through Dominic Krabbat. Coming from the penalty box, Tobias Maier then increased to 2-0 (18th). In the second section, the Geretsrieder, where two juniors Marco Scheffler and Martin Sanner helped out, dared to do more. Nevertheless, you had to accept the 0: 3 again through Krabbat, while your own chances fizzled out.
The River Rats did better in the last third.
"We fought our way back into the game and scored our goals," praised the ESC coach, who first saw Michael Harrer's 3-1 and then Paul Gania's goal.
Maybe even more could have been possible for Geretsrieder, who took goalkeeper Martin Morczinietz (Sternkopf: “He played outstandingly”) from the ice shortly before the end.
But an empty net goal from Dominik Ebentheuer sealed the 2-4 defeat.
The coach was satisfied with the efforts of his team, but stated: "The lack of our top performers is of course particularly noticeable in the over- and under-numbered situations."
