LE SCAN SPORT - The origin of the logo goes back to 1923 and to a bet made by René Lacoste with his Davis Cup coach concerning a small suitcase.

Official sponsor of Roland-Garros since 1971, the Lacoste brand is an essential and even inseparable partner of the Parisian fortnight.

It's hard to walk around the stadium without seeing at one point or another the most famous alligator displayed somewhere.

The origin of this logo dates from 1923 and from an anecdotal bet between René Lacoste and his coach at the time in the Davis Cup.

The two men are in the United States, in Boston when the Basque notices a suitcase made of crocodile skin to his liking.

His coach explains to him that if he wins his upcoming match, he would give him this beautiful object.

An American journalist nicknames the Frenchman "

the Alligator

"

Unfortunately, the future founder of the brand bows but the anecdote of the suitcase reaches the ears of an American journalist.

The latter, amused, wrote in an article that despite the defeat, Lacoste had fought like a real alligator.

"

This image has a lot more to the player because it sums up his style of play quite well.
