According to a report in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the controversial journalist Roland Tichy is relinquishing the management of the Ludwig Erhard Foundation in October.

The reason for this is a widespread wave of criticism of Tichy after his magazine "Tichy's Insight" printed a misogynistic comment.

The Minister of State for Digital, Dorothee Bär (CSU), terminated her membership in the foundation in protest against Chairman Tichy.

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn and the chairman of the SME Union, Carsten Linnemann, also announced on Thursday that their membership in the foundation would be suspended with immediate effect.

The CDU presidium member Spahn and the CDU / CSU parliamentary group vice Linnemann declared in Berlin: "The Ludwig Erhard Foundation is an institution with a long tradition and is committed to the legacy of its namesake."

Unfortunately, a culture of debate among leading representatives of the Foundation has been evident for some time, which does not do justice to this responsibility.

"That damages Ludwig Erhard's reputation. We have therefore decided to put our membership on hold until further notice."

Roland Tichy was for a long time editor-in-chief of several respected business magazines, including "Wirtschaftswoche".

For several years he has been running the controversial web portal "Tichy's Insight" and a printed magazine of the same name.

Both have been criticized for years because of right-wing populist tendencies.

This week, a misogynist and sexist article about the SPD politician Sawsan Chebli caused widespread outrage.

The CSU politician Bär told the "Handelsblatt" that the contribution was the reason for her decision to leave the foundation.

The publication is "misogynistic and sexist to the highest degree," said Bär.

Economists welcome Tichy's departure

Under a picture of Cheblis in the article in "Tichy Insight" one could read: "What speaks for Sawsan? Friends of the journalists have so far only been able to determine the G-spot as a plus in the special democratic party of old men."

Some prominent members of the Ludwig Erhard Foundation reacted with relief to the announcement of Tichy's departure.

The Düsseldorf economist Justus Haucap told SPIEGEL that he was convinced that "it is good that Mr. Tichy is now stepping down".

It had "been rumbling for some time", around the beginning of the year, when Tichy compared Merkel with Hitler.

Haucap had also considered leaving.

But now he is confident that a new tour will be set up by the next general meeting on November 30th.

Michael Hüther, head of the German Economic Institute, made a similar statement.

"The way for a new beginning is free. Tichy was no longer acceptable for this important foundation," said Hüther to SPIEGEL.
