The traditional English football club Derby County, trained by Wayne Rooney, has been deducted twelve points after the bankruptcy proceedings have started.
The second division is now at the bottom of the table with minus two points, the team had scored ten points from the first eight games of the season.
“I guess this is a challenging and worrying time for everyone connected to the club, especially for the staff and supporters,” English Football League (EFL) CEO Trevor Birch is quoted in a statement: “Our intention is to work proactively with all relevant parties to ensure Derby County's long-term and sustainable future. "
Derby announced last Friday that it had submitted a letter of intent to appoint an insolvency administrator.
The association was recently unsuccessfully looking for a new owner.
Rooney, a 120-time England international, took over as coach in 2020.
The former striker announced that he will remain loyal to the club.
“I've said many times that I feel obliged to this club, the players and the staff, and that I care about them.
It's my job to give the club back some pride and dignity, ”Rooney said last weekend.
