Rugby: Athletes are now allowed to wear leggings

Up until now, rugby players have not been allowed to wear tight legwear during games. But now the rugby governing body has changed this anachronistic rule - to reduce the risk of abrasions.

In rugby, until now, only women were allowed to wear tights or leggings at games; men were not allowed to do so.

They had to put up with abrasions on their knees, thighs and lower legs.

But now the rugby umbrella organization has changed its laws: Now all players are allowed to wear tight legwear, as the Guardian reports.

"Since some players are prone to wear on artificial surfaces, the decision gives the players the option of wearing tights or leggings as a preventive measure," the association said.

The association also announced that it would work with manufacturers of artificial turf in the future so that the risk of grazing the skin in the event of a fall can be minimized.
