2019-10-19T09:28:37.842Z

Australia made only one attempt in the quarterfinals of the Rugby World Cup against England. Not enough to go to the semi-finals. There England stands for the first time in twelve years.

After the lost World Cup finals in 2015 against New Zealand, the Australian rugby team in Japan wanted to get the first title in 20 years. It does not matter: In the quarter-final, the Wallabies lost to England 40:16 (17: 6), because they remained in the second half 36 minutes without a point of their own.

For England, it is the first semi-final since 2007 at the last World Cup failed the team already in the preliminary round. Most recently, the rugby motherland was able to win the title at the 2003 World Cup.

Although Australia took the lead through a penalty kick from Christian Lealiifano (12th minute), the team failed to make an attempt throughout the first half. Anders the English: After fast passes to the left side brought Jonny May England in the lead (18).

Only three minutes later increased the English. After a mistake by the Australians in the opposing half England countered Tom Curry, who was caught by two opponents, but kicked the ball in the run of May (21).

36 minutes without Australian points

Although Australia started in the second round with an early attempt by Marika Koroibete (43), but then missed the team to score from promising positions. England's defense in particular made things difficult for the Australians, but after their attempt and the successful raise by Lealiifano (44th), the Wallabies did not score another point until the end of the match.

On their own defensive piled in the Australians also the mistakes. Before his own field, Australia's Kurtley Beale played a devastating miss to Anthony Watson, who was only a few yards to go to England (76 ').

In the semi-final, the English will meet the winner of the match New Zealand vs. Ireland (12.15 pm, TV: ProSieben Maxx). All results and information about the Rugby World Cup can be read here.
