Local election in Bonn: Will the result of the OB election be clear?
Bonn
- On the evening of September 13th, the question of how things will go on with the incumbent mayor will probably be answered in Bonn first.
Will
Ashok-Alexander Sridharan manage
to get
an
election result
of over 50 percent?
He would then be confirmed in office in the first ballot and could avoid a subsequent runoff.
The further results of the local elections in Bonn are already clear after the first ballot, but it may take a little longer until they are fully counted.
Clear order for counting the results of the local elections in Bonn
In the
2020 local elections,
voters will receive
the ballot papers for the mayor, the city council and the district councils.
Although all institutions are of course important for the city, there is a sequence that is also used for the election results in Bonn: First,
the votes for the mayor
come in the
count
, followed by the city council and district representatives.
In local elections, cities are often able
to publish
the results of the mayoral
election
on
election evening
.
Even with the
distribution of seats
in the city council, it is becoming less likely that reliable figures will be available on September 13th.
We will keep you up to date with the latest
figures
from Bonn
on election evening
.
How quickly will the election result be determined in NRW?
Compared to other federal states,
North Rhine-Westphalia
makes
voting
and the subsequent counting of the election results quite easy.
The
voter may mark exactly one cross
on each
ballot paper
.
This increases the probability that all election results will also be available promptly for the local elections in Bonn.
One factor of uncertainty, however, is the impact of the corona pandemic on the election.
The
election workers
must of course take the necessary preventive measures, which can slow down the process.

Which result leads to a runoff election in the local elections in Bonn?
In principle, there can only be a runoff election for the post of mayor.
For the municipal parliaments, the voting process will be completed on September 13th.
If the
result of the local election in Bonn
does not show any OB candidate with more than 50 percent of the votes, a second ballot must decide.
For this
run-off election
, for which September 27 is the standard date in North Rhine-Westphalia, there are only two candidates who were able to unite the most votes in the first ballot.
At the latest after that, the result of the
OB election will also be
final.
