The golf stars from the USA clearly dominated the defending champions from Europe on the opening day of the 43rd Ryder Cup.

After the first eight team duels, the hosts were on Friday at the Whistling Straits Golf Course in the US state of Wisconsin 6: 2 points lead.

Team USA had never led so high on day one.

The Europeans got the first point of the day.

The Spanish duo of US Open winners Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia defeated Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth on the golf course on the shores of Lake Michigan.

With the success, Garcia improved his own record to 26.5 points in his tenth Ryder Cup start.

No other player has scored more points in the history of the event.

The Americans won the three other morning matches.

Dustin Johnson and Collin Morikawa defeated Paul Casey (England) and Viktor Hovland (Norway).

Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger won against England's Lee Westwood and Matt Fitzpatrick.

The clearest success was celebrated by Patrick Cantlay and Olympic champion Xander Schauffele against Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) and Ian Poulter (England).

In the four afternoon duels, the US stars turned up to the cheers of thousands of spectators.

Johnson / Schauffele gave Casey and Bernd Wiesberger (Austria) no chance.

Tony Finau and Harris English prevailed against McIlroy and Shane Lowry (Ireland).

The match between Bryson DeChambeau / Scottie Scheffler and Rahm / Tyrrell Hatton (England) ended in a draw.

The point was also shared in the duel between Thomas / Cantlay and Hovland / Tommy Fleetwood (England).

DeChambeau impressed, McIlroy disappointed

The stroke of the day was once again made by muscle man DeChambeau, who thundered his tee shot on the fifth fairway - a 530 meter long par 5 - 381 meters down the fairway.

In the end, the 28-year-old punched his ball with three hits to the Eagle and thus won the hole.

The first day was disappointing for McIlroy from Northern Ireland.

The four-time major champion had lost both of his matches - and was then not nominated for a session for the first time since his Ryder Cup debut in 2010.

Three years ago the Europeans in Paris had recaptured the Ryder Cup with 17.5: 10.5 from the Americans.

Therefore, 14 of the 28 points to be awarded are enough for the team from Europe as defending champions.

The challengers, on the other hand, need 14.5 points.

Europe has won nine of the last twelve continental comparisons.
