The Kirchsee and the Reutberg monastery recently served as the backdrop for a much-noticed meeting for the new CDU chairman Friedrich Merz (left) and the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder.

It was Merz who chose the location.

Reutberg's brewery boss August Maerz speaks in the Kurier interview about the new CDU chairman and his preference for beer and snacks.

Sachsenkam

– The Upper Bavarian idyll as a setting for political staging: Markus Söder (CSU) and Friedrich Merz (CDU) recently demonstrated the regained unity of the sister parties with a photo shoot at Kirchsee. The images of the men in the foehn storm went through all the media. Contrary to what one might expect, however, it was not the Bavarian Prime Minister who suggested the location for the meeting, but the newly elected CDU chairman on Saturday. Merz has been a member of the Reutberg monastery brewery cooperative since 2011. He owns shares of 600 euros, as recently reported in the Süddeutsche Zeitung. The Tölzer Kurier spoke to the CEO of the brewery, August Maerz, about the prominent comrade.

Mr. Maerz, the new CDU boss and long-time Reutberg comrade Friedrich Merz, recently said that he appreciates the Reutberg dividend in the form of snacks and beer.

Is Mr. Merz an active member and does he show up on site?

Yes, he's been there before.

He has already spoken a word of welcome at a general meeting.

Even so, I've seen him two or three times and struck up a conversation with him.

"On the Reutberg you are closer to the people"

Do you think that being a member of the Reutberg also pays off politically for Mr. Merz?

On the Reutberg you are closer to the people.

We speak German.

We don't have the submissive gene like that.

Mr. Merz himself said: "The grapes hang high on the Reutberg."

Did you get any reactions to Friedrich Merz and Markus Söder's performance at Kirchsee?

Is there an advertising effect for the Reutberg monastery brewery?

No, we have not received any feedback.

An advertising effect for the brewery cannot be measured directly.

Do you have other prominent members in your ranks?

Yes, we have many prominent members, especially from the political field.

Among them are some members of the state parliament, numerous mayors of the region and various district administrators.

For example, Ilse Aigner is also a Reutberger comrade.

Being a member of the Reutberg is "in fashion".

Some interested parties wait up to three years to become a member.

But we don't accept an infinite number, otherwise we would have to hold our general assembly at the Oktoberfest.

New members are only accepted when members die or move away.

Andrea Denz asked the questions.
