In almost 120 years, the nougat of the Saint-Tropez institution, Sénéquier, has become an “it” of gluttony. Sénéquier / Facebook

For nearly 100 years, the red tables and chairs of Sénéquier have dominated the port of Saint-Tropez. Popularized by Colette and Brigitte Bardot, before Jacques Chirac and Johnny Hallyday sit there every summer in front of a flood of curious onlookers, this mythical terrace is one of the main attractions of the village. But it is above all in the back room that a treasure is hidden: an incredible soft nougat, the recipe of which, jealously kept secret, was invented by Marie and Martin Sénéquier in 1887. Made in the artisan workshop overlooking the Place aux Herbes, made with almonds from Spain, pistachios from Sicily and honey from Provence, this highly addictive delicacy has survived the ages without taking a wrinkle. Always served in its vintage-look aluminum packaging, it will be a perfect souvenir to bring back in your suitcase, if you manage not to devour it before your departure!
