Same goals with less experience

EV Moosburg starts the new season of the national ice hockey league - with the same goals, but less experience.

Moosburg

- Not much has changed at EV Moosburg.

The goal for the regional league season 21/22 is also the promotion round, i.e. places one to four.

"I think it will be more difficult this time than in previous years because other teams have upgraded their staff," believes coach Bernie Englbrecht.

"In addition, we have to contend with injury concerns in the first few games, but we will still do everything we can to be there."

For a place in the top four it would be important to successfully play the home games against ESC Vilshofen (Fri. 7.30 p.m.) and TSV Trostberg (Sun. 6 p.m.) right at the start.

The problem at the start of the season is the lack of a lot of playful potential and higher-class experience. With Max Englbrecht in goal and top striker Miloslav Horava, the two most important pillars will be missing in the first few weeks due to injury. In addition, Peter Abstreiter, a DEL-experienced striker, hung up his skates before the season. The few EVM newcomers and a large part of last year's team have to compensate for this. There are great hopes for returnees Daniel Schander. The 26-year-old came from EV Dingolfing before the season and, according to the will of those responsible, should build on his great performances in the Moosburger jersey in the Bayernliga (2015 to 18). While Schander is supposed to take care of the goals, Michael Numberger and Florian Mayer are expected tothat they should stabilize the defense of the national division. Both came from the ESC Eispiraten Dorfen and were able to gain a lot of experience in the Bavarian League. Like Dominik Schander, the two defenders have integrated very well into the team during preparation, reports Englbrecht, but they could certainly do more than they showed in the friendly matches.

In general, the 63-year-old trainer was satisfied with the preparation. Sometimes he didn't like the defensive behavior that much, which wasn't surprising after a year out of play. Nevertheless, it has been intensively refined again in the last two weeks of training. Another EVM newcomer was also there. Because with Jonas Seitz the green-yellow has joined a striker from Lechbruck. The 23-year-old recently started his studies in Landshut and was looking for a new club. Tobias Hanöffner, Christian Seidlmayer and Kevin Steiger, on the other hand, want to take it easy. But all three will stay with EV Moosburg as part-time players. So it is quite possible that one of the three standby players will be in the squad at the weekend.

The Englbrecht representative Johannes Probst in goal will also be an important factor for a good start.

Should the 28-year-old deliver a solid performance between the posts, the green-yellows will have secure support.

This is a prerequisite for being better defensively than in previous years.

And that is the big goal this season, explains coach Englbrecht, who believes that his team will score fewer goals and that is why it is important to concede less at the back.
