In the Schalke youth, Joel Ngom Ngom played with later stars like Leroy Sané.

Today the 27-year-old plays for tens of thousands of fans for rapper Cro.

Munich – Joel Ngom Ngom always wanted to be on the big stage.

But actually in the football stadiums of this world.

Now he is touring as a DJ in a bathrobe with rapper Cro and DJing in front of thousands of fans every week.

From footballer to DJ - we tell the story behind it.

Ngom Ngom, born in Essen in 1995, first played in the schoolyard.

At the age of six he took part in a Schwarz-Weiß Essen training session with a friend, only five years later he switched to the Schalke 04 youth team. He got autograph cards from the Schalke stars for his friends from the Essen high school.

Until one day Manuel Neuer asked if they didn't already have enough autographs from him.

Ngom Ngom played in the Knappenschmiede with Max Meyer ("He was technically so incredibly strong"), Kaan Ayhan (currently plays for US Sassuolo Calcio in Serie A) and Leroy Sané.

The trips to training with the Bayern star are particularly memorable:

“You can definitely have a lot of fun with Leroy.

It was always funny with him on the driver service.”

Joel Ngom Ngom: Profit dream lived on

And of course, the hope of becoming professional football grew with each passing year in the Schalke youth.

However, his mother kept reminding him how many people fail when they try: "So I never had the mindset: I'm the biggest here and I'll have a big contract in two years."

There was also no thick contract.

The season at Schalke became less, Ngom Ngom switched to the A youth team at Rot-Weiss-Essen.

There, however, the midfielder was not included in the first team.

"It left a hole in me."

Half a year kicking around for black and white food in the Oberliga, then the air was gone, the will was no longer there.

"I was honest enough with myself and said: I'd rather take a different career path than play football half-heartedly."

Dream of professional football shattered: Ngom Ngom came to music through Kaan Ayhan

Ayhan was still playing at Fortuna Düsseldorf at the time and lived in Essen.

As a balance to football, the Turkish national player played a lot of music and always had a DJ controller with him.

"At some point I thought to myself: Hey, I love music.

Just show me that,” says Ngom Ngom.

"When he was on an international trip, I only dealt with the controller for two weeks."

DJ breakthrough in Munich: Ngom Ngom played at Jerome Boateng's party

The big breakthrough came in Munich.

2019, at a party hosted by Jerome Boateng at P1.

Actually, Ngom Ngom only expected a short appearance.

However, since a star DJ from Miami was late, he heated up from 11:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

Suddenly Usain Bolt was standing next to him, David Alaba congratulated him after the performance.

"I was just in a tunnel that night: I just didn't want to mess it up," says the DJ with a smile.

Fate continued to be kind to Ngom Ngom.

In 2020 he traveled to Bali, shortly before the outbreak of the corona pandemic.

A friend of his introduced Ngom Ngom to successful rapper Cro, who has a home on the island.

“I was then invited to sleep with him.

That's how the friendship started, we were more or less trapped in the house for four months.”

A few months later, Ngom Ngom attended a Cro show in Berlin, was allowed to spontaneously do the warm-up - and convinced.

Since then, the former football talent has been an integral part of the team and is on stage in front of up to ten thousand people every week: "It's really crazy."

Leon Goretzka was also on the guest list at a concert in Munich.

"Suddenly he stood in front of me backstage and said: Joel?

What works?

We chatted a lot about old times.

He's a top guy.” Goretzka told Ngom Ngom that he would like to stand alone on stage in front of such a crowd.

And of course, the musician who appears as "MP3" would also like to know how it feels to play in the Allianz Arena: "But I'm too rusty for that now."
