Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg was sworn in today before the country's president, Alexander Van der Bellen, as the country's new chancellor, two days after the resignation of former chancellor Sebastian Kurz over a corruption scandal.
"We will do everything we can to fill the gaps caused by the previous government's crisis, and I will make every effort to serve this country," Schallenberg told reporters after he was sworn in at Vienna's Hofburg Palace, the Associated Press quoted Schallenberg as telling reporters.
The former chancellor, Kurz, announced last Saturday that he would step down from his position to defuse a political crisis after the Public Prosecution charged him with being involved in corruption, bribery and dishonesty scandals with his team and those close to him, in addition to trying to ensure his progress in the leadership of his party through opinion polls that were manipulated with reactions Positive about Kurz's party and giving bribes to media outlets to publish media reports in its favour, funded by public funds.
