Berlin (dpa) - SPD chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz has spoken out strictly against tax cuts for companies.

At the SPD's future camp, the Federal Finance Minister threw the Union leadership on Sunday with an “absurd idea” of saying, “These people now need another tax cut - who earn a lot, who make big profits - because that is important for the future”.

He spoke of a mistake and went on to say: "We have strange conservatives way behind the times and as if they did not understand the crisis."

Scholz pointed out that during the crisis, 400 billion euros in debt had been borrowed and companies had been supported with billions of dollars in support, and that the federal government had already made tax breaks in the order of over 100 billion euros possible.

"And of course we also need a global minimum taxation for companies," said Scholz.

“That is a prerequisite for our economic model to work at all.” He is very happy that there is now an understanding between the classic industrial nations.
