The employees of the municipal security service in Schwerin are now wearing bulletproof vests during their operations.

The city announced this.

The head of the regulatory department, Silvio Horn, said that verbal attacks and the willingness to use violence against employees had increased.

This has recently been noticed at larger events.

The 28 employees in the field service therefore needed more protection.

Horn said that in many German cities, municipal law enforcement officers are already equipped with vests.

The vests weigh around 2.2 kilograms and offer protection against shots and slashing and stabbing attacks.

According to the city, the "ballistic combination package" also includes a "spike protection" that wards off attacks with screwdrivers or syringes.

In addition to distributing tickets, the tasks of the municipal security service also include various checks, for example to ensure compliance with the Youth Protection Act or to combat undeclared work.

Compliance with the corona requirements was also checked by the regulatory authorities (read more about it here).
